Principal’s Introduction

Greetings to our School Community, Tena Koutou Nga mihi mahana, nga mihi hari ki a Koutou Katoa

Thank you for your welcome at the Powhiri held at 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday 26th February. I was impressed with the students and staff attending and especially at the number of local principals and community members. It is easy to see just what a closely connected community Papatoetoe is and I am honoured to have become part of it, as the Principal of Papatoetoe Intermediate School.

A brief introduction; I have been involved in education for over 30 years, having taught in mainly low decile schools at a variety of year levels. I have taught at both Bader Intermediate and Mangere Intermediate and was recently the Principal at Avondale Intermediate School. I have qualifications in early primary and adult education and am currently completing my Masters in Education Leadership.

I am passionate about providing quality educational opportunities for all students and ensuring that teachers are enabled and expected to achieve high outcomes for their classes. I hold traditional values regarding respect, behaviour and individual and collective responsibility. Yet have a modern outlook in regards to educational provision. I believe education should be exciting, challenging and filled with new opportunities. I thrive on challenge.

Finally I have an ‘open door policy’. As the Principal I believe I must be ‘available’; for students, parents, teachers and community members. I depend on you all for guidance and support and hope that you will visit me and let me know what you want and hope for your children.

Our vision

Papatoetoe Intermediate School is seen as a high performing school by the South Auckland community and by the Education Review Office. It is a school that is innovative and evolving through the process of continual improvement. Yet, it is also viewed as “traditional” in that we have firm values; that we maintain the traditional intermediate school balance between home-room and specialisation; that our reputation is broad based on academic achievement, development of creativity, sporting excellence and sound pastoral and disciplinary approaches.
