CAREERS DAY
Our School Careers Expo 2018
On Wednesday, November 14th, we had our School Careers Expo 2018 which was held in our school gymnasium. Our teacher, Mr Titiuti was organising it and we were there to help him with the running of the programme on the day. Prior to this inspiring day, Mr Titiuti had invited different professionals and diplomats from different professions to attend our 2018 Careers Expo. Most of them did turn up on the day while some were unable to attend due to their busy work schedules. Every Year 8 student had the opportunity to learn about different careers as well as receiving first hand and relevant information from the experts. We are grateful to those professionals who kindly gave up their time to attend our Careers Expo and share with us their experiences and expertise. All professionals are humble, friendly and knowledgeable. We would like to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to NZ Police, NZ Defence Forces, The Electrical Training Company, Tertiary Education Commission, Manukau Institute of Technology, a professional Chef, Fire Fighters, a Lawyer, Media Design, an Accountant (PricewaterCoopers) and a Computer Programmer (Beweb). We appreciate your effort, time and meritorious service on the day and thank you for inspiring us!
Below are the comments from some of our classmates about their experience on the day.
“Our learning experience with the police officers was very interesting. They taught us about the importance of their job. And why they decided to become police officers. They even let us wear the police vests, hats and got some students from the audience to demonstrate how and what to do when arresting someone and take control. Police officers are cool people.” – Tamar
“The firefighters were so passionate about their jobs and we learnt about what they do. Basically, it is about helping and giving back to the community and others in NZ. Being a firefighter is very special because they are able to help and save people’s lives. One message I got from the firefighters today is, our safety is their first priority.” – Jason & Nathan
“We learn how to become an electrician and now are aware of how they do their jobs. Also, we know how much they are getting a year. And if you want to be an electrician, you have to be very smart in Maths and Science.” – Jerome & Malik
“Our experience was really educating and interesting. We learnt a lot about how the NZ Defence Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) help our country and around the world. We appreciate that they took time to come to our school and share with us their experience about the importance of joining the military.” – Xavier & Paul
“Being with the MIT representative was a great experience to us. Because she provided relevant information about the different courses they offer at MIT. We now know that MIT can help us to pursue our future dreams. And through MIT, we are now looking forward to having great careers one day.” – Pauline & Nuwah
“Both guests from the Tertiary Education Commission were very enthusiastic about their jobs. They were encouraging us to get a good career that we will like and be passionate about. Something that we will wake up every day and say ”Yes! I’m going to work.” They were showing us ideas and provided relevant information about subjects to take that will lead to a variety of future jobs.” – Ramita & Siristi
Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with tons of inspiration. Every student enjoyed it and teachers loved it too. Thank-you Mr Titiuti for all your hard work and we are lucky to have a teacher like you who cares about our future and inspires us to do our best in everything that we are passionate about.

My Journey At Papatoetoe Intermediate!
My journey here at Papatoetoe Intermediate has been a great experience. I’ve learnt to be more comfortable in class and outdoors. I had the opportunity to perform in dance groups, music groups and the opportunity to represent our school in some sports. I have never been so happy to be part of Papatoetoe Intermediate School. The community full of educational students and encouraging teachers. Last year in 2017, I was class leader and it’s been a great opportunity to become one this year as well. My advice for the new Year 8’s for 2019 is to take the chance to participate in every event and become role models for the new Year 7’s.
My experience in Papatoetoe Intermediate has been a splendid time in my life. Last year I didn’t do much but I still had a great time participating in swimming sports and athletics. I do really regret that I didn’t do much last year, but I encourage the new year 7’s and 8’s to participate as much as they can to get the best experience possible. This year was kind of different where I had a chance to become Science leader, Security Box Monitor, and Peer Mediator.
My Journey at Intermediate is coming up to the end as I will be going to High School next year. I am going to miss everything in Papatoetoe Intermediate School. I am taking some really good memories with me from the school, friends and teachers. I want to wish all the best for my fellow Year 8’s and for Year 7’s stepping up as role models for newcomers and to enjoy being part of Papatoetoe Intermediate School.
