Our school has an enrolment scheme that puts a limit on our intake in any one year to prevent overcrowding. We have a Home Zone and first preference is given to pupils whose home is within that zone [i.e. in-zoners]. [A list of in zone streets is attached].
The procedure for the selection of an out of zone student at Papatoetoe Intermediate is as set out in the Education Amendment Act 2000.
- First Priority will be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the special programme[s] run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education. This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not yet run a special programme approved by the Secretary.
- Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
- Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
- Fourth Priority will be given to applicants who are children of board employees.
- Fifth Priority will be given to all other applicants - these students go to ballot.
We must have ALL in zone enrolments in by 20th August and out-of-zone applications close on the 15th October, with a ballot to be held on the 20th October for any balloted places the school has available. NO out-of-zone applications can be accepted after 3.00 p.m. on the closing date. [These two dates change from year to year and are governed by the Ministry of Education – we don’t usually know the exact dates until April of each year].
Please Note - Papatoetoe Intermediate cannot enroll students whose parents intend to put them into the care of people who live in our home zone – no matter how close the relationship.
Application materials will be distributed to the contributing primary schools and we ask that parents give their urgent attention to these. Please return your completed forms to Papatoetoe Intermediate School. Attached to your enrolment form must also be either a copy of the student’s birth certificate or a copy of the passport. [If your child was not born in New Zealand you must also attach relevant passport details – either Residency Stamp or Student and Work Permit details and the students birth certificate]. These document MUST be attached for the enrolment to be accepted.
Completing an out-of-zone form does not, in itself, constitute acceptance - the school will have to follow the government’s guidelines and timetable.
