International Fee Paying Students

Papatoetoe Intermediate School undertakes to comply with the accommodation provisions set out in Part 6 of the Ministry of Education Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. The categories of accommodation that will be accepted by the school are:

  1. Living with a parent

  2. Living with a designated caregiver

  3. Living in homestay – in an emergency only

Rationale

International Student fees must be handled in a way that ensures those funds are accessed in a way that is consistent with normal accounting practice. This means that those funds are secure from misappropriation and are only made available to the school in accord with the Refunds Policy or should the school not be able to continue tuition.

Group students means:

  1. International students holding a group visa issued by the New Zealand Immigration Service; or

  2. Two or more international students studying together in New Zealand for no more than three calendar months on a group visit organised by a provider.

RATIONALE

The school will provide a New Zealand educational experience for a limited number of international students each year and in doing so will promote further opportunities at our school for people from diverse cultures to work alongside each other and enhance their understanding of each other’s culture. Full compliance with The Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students is a key aspect of our International Students programme.

RATIONALE:

The Education Standards Act (2001) requires the school to police vet all non-teaching staff and contractors who work at the school on a regular basis during school hours. Also a condition of being a signatory to the Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students requires the school to conduct a police vet of homestay carers over the age of 18. Privacy issues are a key component of this policy.
